silicone souls darkroom dubs label has pulled off quite a coup with their latest release. taking a retrospective look through the labels archive, the duo approached some of their favourite producers, asking them to rework and give their own take some of the music from previous releases... and boy are we in for a treat! the coup in question was the securing of the talents of a certain mr robag wruhme. currently enjoying the acclaim generated from his exquisite long player, >thora vukk< (pampa), wruhme has kindly turned his attention to remixing extrawelts >neuland< for darkroom dubs. the lead track from their 2010 >neuland< marked a key moment for the label, as silicone soul celebrated the signing of an act that they had admired for many years. robag provides not one, but two reworks of the stunning original, each as impressive and moving as the other. the second rework sees john selway turning filippo mancinelli & allen mays >the hills< on its head. the deepness of the 2009 original, is still in evidence as the atmospheric sounds sweep within selways wonderfully driving tech reconstruction.

somewhere between center parcs in nottingham and the white sandy perfection of formentera reside two men dedicated to the art of horizontal dancing. their mums call them ampo and timm (funny names, those notts lads), though we know them by their collective name of coyote. in their minds eye, it is still 1986 and there are leathery looking germans with alarming posing pouches dancing to simply red records on the shimmering terrace at ku club while down the road alfredo is building his legendary reputation at amnesia. apart from the clued-up few, most of the brits are billeted in san antonio where the beers are cheap and the sunburn is plentiful. coyotes music, despite being produced in the east midlands conjures up a world of sun, sea and 80s glamour, while still sounding very much like today.

>bon tres bien< is the first 12 inch of a young french label based in toulouse and paris: bab musique. the original track by switch groov exp. sounds like an invitation to fly over the world. latin and brazilian influences with a killa jazz funk background. b side consists of a remix by simbad. this amazing french londons based producer and dj released already 3 lps and more than 200 remixes (for gonzales, bugz in the attic, julien loureau…). he offers here deep & heavy material between broken beats, techno and dub.

the second serving from schmorgasbord brings together two relatively disparate and unrelated artists, but who both share a uniquely twisted approach to making music. s-max has been doing his thing for some time, running legendary home all things bizarre in house and techno, boogizm, and releasing a special kind of groove on labels such as telegraph, 7th city and karloff. his original track, >ms. rosen dub<, swaggers and sways with the spirit of classic yorkshire bleeps and bass. the groove is house, but the spirit of adventure is most definitely techno. his remix of spatials >corti< takes a very different approach, taking a rolling, jungle-like approach to dubstep and nailing it to the groove with stabbing bass notes. spatial leapt onto the bass music radar late 2008 with his shadowy infrasonics imprint, and quickly snapped heads with his crisp, refined approach to 2-step rhythms. since then he’s done things on his own terms, only releasing for himself and mutating his sound over a series of 10 inches. >corti< perfectly demonstrates spatials unconventional tendencies, lurching and buckling around a perfectly honed splatter of beats, off-centre synths and delirious vocal snippets. meanwhile on his remix of s-max, spatial flips the script once again with a stomping, swung techno angle that hammers the original into an uptempo, fist-pumping banger.

tes la roks highly anticipated debut album entitled >them< will finally see the light of day. tes la rok made his name in dubstep circles in 2007 with the massive >round the world girls remix< which immediately positioned him as one of the most exciting artists and definitely one to watch. anthem releases such as >under the dancing feet< remix for clouds, >wikidness remix< for mungos hi-fi, and >up in the vip / living fire< on dub police were soon followed by bookings at dmz in brixton and dubstep mecca fwd>> at plastic people. >them< features thirteen tracks engineered with precision and care. these tracks are being championed by the main players such as distance, n-type, kryptic, minds, desto, pinch, addison groove and cyrus.

released as a 2 x 12 inch with the full length 11 track cd album shrink-wrapped. the vinyl features 4 brand new remixess from the album.this album represents the peak so far of the lads technical skills, its carefully produced from start to finish. tracks are frequently tied together, and a lot of thought has gone into the flow of the album. this is one that can be listened too from beginning to end, as opposed to a collection of singles. however that doesnt mean that state of mind have forgotten about the 3am raver. almost all of the tracks have all been smashing it up world wide over the last 6 months in their own right. collaboration wise, the album features several of nzs most talented vocalists including shapeshifters p.digsss, thomas oliver, sacha vee, mc woody & pnc, as well as american singer 3pm. the only production collaborators are nymfo and dnme. several other collaborations were planned for the lp, but in the end were unable to fit. these will be released as bonus tracks.

miles whittaker has been an integral part of the modern love label since its inception in 2002 - as one half of both pendle coven and demdike stare, as well as his own productions under the mlz and millie monikers. after almost 15 years writing music, this is the first release miles is putting out under his own name and marks a turning point of sorts in his production style, or rather, in its sequencing. the facets ep brings together different ends of his production style, unifying elements of the house and techno he s most commonly released as mlz together with the more broken production signatures usually reserved for millie and the darkened tribalism of demdike stare. flawed opens the set with a linn loop from the archives, stretched and slowed down with an intoxicated aesthetic that s somewhere between house and dub, before lustre re-configures source material originally keyed in by labelmate andy stott with a nice line in squashed percussion. primer on the flip extends from a demdike stare outtake and veers off into an analogue drum machine workout, before on the fly ends the set with a recording made straight to mixing desk from an array of mis-wired and malfunctioning drum boxes, contact microphones and samplers, over at his studio the mill earlier this year.

morning caffeine is the debut release by poker flats martin landsky on mobilee that we have all been waiting for! as a poker flat artist with huge success to his name for various remixes, he boasts a discography that reads like a guide through electronic musics hottest sounds. always refusing to be pigeonhold, landsky continuously embraces different paths and once again hes brought something new to the table. title track morning caffeine (main mix) kick starts the ep with both a dark and uplifting mood as a slightly twisted loop continues to build throughout the track, never really culminating but carrying on inescapably, whilst in contrast the organ dub version offers a much lighter and bouncier atmosphere. aint nobodys is the pleasant surprise of the ep, once again demonstrating landkys musical diversity and serving up really special warm dreamy vibes

the a-sided maintime tune >chicago< includes a remix by detroit based producer eric johnston, well known from labels such as wolf+lamb & cityfox and >anvil< on the b-side comes with a dub remix by do easy artist christopher groove who just appeared on matthias meyers big supported ep released on cecille.

the three tracker gets off with a lovely post basic channel, dub techno interpretation of a techno track for the warmer days. the b side does a great job in fusing soft beats and low key melodies with raw structure,drive and pressure. plangent records slowly becomes the face for the otherside of berlin techno together with a label such as giegling. gritty deep techno, with some influences from dubstep here and there... slowly moving away from the much abused detroit reference. definitely worth the listen!

now hes back with three glorious deep techno tracks that mark the start of an interplanetary trilogy for the label. lead track >exopshere< takes up where his komisch debut left off, with foreboding, dub-tinged chords building into a menacing climax and swarms of driving, razor sharp percussion keeping the arrangement focused on the dance floor. on the flip, >deep end< sees parallel exploring more esoteric sounds, with swirling, layered chords underpinned by dubbed out drums, heavy claps and hissing percussion, like an update of classic sterac material. >analogue city< brings a mellow end to the release. deep pads and ghostly sounds hover above a warm, splurging bassline that recalls underground resistance in mellow, tripped out mode. if youre looking for the classic sounds reinterpreted for contemporary techno dance floors, then make sure to get an audience with the >cosmic observer<.

jon dasilva is one of the original hacienda (the manchester club) djs and was behind the decks when house exploded in the uk during the summer of love in 1988 as well as being a tour dj for new order and the haciendas usa tour in 1990. since then he has been credited for mentoring djs such as sasha and been an inspiration to laurent garnier a.o. he has also got a string of releases under his belt for labels such as soma, deconstruction, robs records and better days. check! on his debut release he teams up with vocalist donald waugh and the return to the roots of house music with >love is all we need<. together they have created a house classic that never was, reminiscent of an essential dj international release or alike. comes as full vocal and dubbed out bootleg mix. on the flip we find brailles on remix duties. fresh from his massive >the year 3000< on our direct current series, braille pushes >love is all we need< into the next century. classic feel good stuff. this is how we like our vocal house!

and are a duo living in manchester, uk. they have released a split 12 inch with 16 bit on mindset in 2009, the second 12 inch on black sun records that came out recently and a couple of 12 inches on horizontal ground. they sent me various batches of tracks spanning a wide range of sounds, all rooted in techno to my ears but spanning different tempos, emphasis and mood. i selected three of those tracks to appear on this ep, ranging between 130 and 135 bpm. the index is a project by two of new york city s underground music pioneers, raz mesinai aka badawi and dub war founder dave q. the label centers on original badawi productions at the intersection of dub and modern composition, as well as new works and remixes by some of the most forward-thinking artists at the outer limits of dubstep and experimental electronica. the first release was 2010 s head-melting el topo / dstry all pfrfts team-up with shackleton, and this second entry finds badawi reviving new york s dystopian hip hop lineage via a collaboration with the legendary mc sensational of jungle brothers and wordsound fame. no schnitzel is a militant, mind-bending half-step rhythm that sensational weaves in and out of, creating a new form of dubstep-hip hop hybrid with a unique bad apple flavor. the dubbed-out version strips it down to the instrumental roots, while flipside more schnitzel goes deeper into abstracted acid dubstep for the more adventurous soundsystem selectors.
